Amazing Metal Sculpture in Borrego Springs!

A few months ago, Shane and I went camping in Borrego Springs. The weather was fantastic which served us well in our hike through an oasis.

While, traveling around Borrego Springs, we came across Ricardo Breceda's metal sculptures. He started creating large-scale metal work in 2001. Here, he created 129 sculptures, all of which are larger than life! Below is just a small sampling of his work. It is amazing how he can achieve such incredible detail in such massive works of art!

As you can see from the images above of the people standing next to the mother and baby camel sculptures, these pieces are larger than real-life camels!

Some of the sculptures featured above are representations of prehistoric animals.  If any of you are familiar with what these animals are, please feel free to comment below! Uh oh! Looks like someone is being eaten by this "elephant-like" creature! :-P

Above, are even more images of creatures I cannot identify. Imagine the time it must to take to make this mother and baby look so "furry" in metal!

The battle of the bugs! Breceda places the grasshopper and scorpion as if they are about to face off!

Below is Breceda's most amazing sculpture. He created a 350 foot sand serpent! It looks like a cross between a Chinese dragon and a rattlesnake. If you look at some of the detail images, you will see that the artist formed each scale covering the serpent's body. I cannot imagine fabricating a dragon with this level of detail in a tiny jewelry scale, let alone a giant 350 foot sculpture!

If any of you have the opportunity to travel to Borrego Springs, do it! If any of you enjoy metal work as much as I do, this is a feast for the eyes! I have never seen so many amazing sculptures in one area, let alone a rural area! And the best part is you don't even have to pay to see it! I hope you enjoyed these images and have a fantastic weekend! :-)
